Ancient India was home to many major rivers, including the Indus, Ganges, Yamuna, and Saraswati, which were central to its civilizations and are frequently mentioned in ancient texts like the Rigveda. Other important ancient rivers include the Brahmaputra, Godavari, Narmada, Mahanadi, and Kaveri. Many of these rivers, such as the Saraswati, have also been called by different names in ancient times, with the Saraswati now believed to be the Ghagghar.
